After her second consecutive triumph at the US Open, she enjoyed a vacation in Greece and subsequently withdrew from the China Open last week, another prestigious WTA 1000 tournament.
Sabalenka commented on her return: «I understood that after a short break, regaining my rhythm wouldn`t be simple. I`m truly pleased that I found my form and asserted myself in the second set; I believe I played exceptionally well. I`m thrilled to be competing here again. Sabalenka secured the crucial break against her 68th-ranked adversary in the very first game of the deciding set and capitalized on her second match point, concluding the encounter in just under two hours.
Despite Sramkova breaking her serve twice to claim the opening set, Sabalenka initiated her comeback by breaking in the fourth game of the second set, establishing a commanding 4-1 lead. She then fended off four break points in the seventh game to maintain her advantage.
Karolina Muchova unfortunately joined the list of players affected by the intense heat and humidity, retiring from her match against Magdalena Frech while trailing 7-6 (1), 4-1.
