Preview Celtics seem to be moving closer to Jaylen Brown trade

The Celtics aren’t saying Jaylen Brown is available. They’re also not doing much to quiet the speculation.

With Boston continuing to explore the trade market after missing out on Giannis Antetokounmpo, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said Thursday that league-wide expectation is increasingly pointing toward Brown being moved.

“He’s going to get traded,” Windhorst said on ESPN Radio’s Unsportsmanlike.

Windhorst pointed to comments made earlier this week by Celtics president Brad Stevens, noting that while Stevens praised Brown and spoke about their relationship, he stopped short of saying the five-time All-Star would definitely remain in Boston.

“He obviously told him that there was a good chance they’re going to trade him,” Windhorst said. “It’s not a guarantee that they’re going to find a deal that they like that’s going to improve the team, but I think they are intending to trade him.”

ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported that Brown discussions could extend into July as Boston continues evaluating its options.

Brown, 29, is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while earning All-NBA Second Team honors.

He is also eligible to sign a two-year extension worth roughly $142 million beginning next month, a factor that could become part of any potential trade discussions.
